Marsh mallows
Marshmallows are medicinal plants in the Malvaceae family and Malveae tribe. The Althea genus comprises some 12 known species. In the Kokopelli catalog, you'll find the officinal marshmallow - Althea officinalis - a mucilaginous, medicinal perennial with white flowers tinged with pink. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked like spinach. The root, rich in mucilage, is used for its soothing, laxative and aperitive properties.
