Burdock - Arctium lappa - belongs to the Asteraceae family and the Cynareae tribe. The Arctium genus comprises 10 known species. It is highly prized in Asia for its blood-purifying properties, as well as for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, depurative and detoxifying properties. Barda can be used to treat skin problems such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and other irritations. It is often found in Japanese markets in 15 cm pieces, preserved in a sweet or vinegar sauce. Japanese cultivars are selected for the flavor of their roots and the smaller size of their leaves.
