A perennial in mild climates, this highly ornamental ipomoea species, sometimes called Venus comb, produces deeply cut green foliage and beautiful star-shaped, scarlet-red flowers.

Sow in pots, under light cover, 4 weeks before the last frost and cover with 1 cm of soil. Water lightly. Transplant into the ground, after the last frosts, at a minimum distance of 40 cm in all directions. For direct sowing, sow lightly in sufficiently warmed soil and thin to a minimum distance of 40 cm in all directions. To promote germination, soak seeds in water the day before sowing.
