Who is The Frenchie Gardener ?

Patrick Vernuccio « The Frenchie Gardener » on Instagram, has lived in urban areas since his childhood. Four years ago, he decided to try to grow food on his balcony. He quickly discovered how magic it is to plant a seed which can give birth to a huge plant, providing edible fruits or vegetables. Growing food in urban areas is possible and he experimented with many different varieties to see which ones would grow healthily in pots & containers, even with a limited space. He is now growing dozens of edible varieties. Growing your food can reconnect you with our seasons, our nature & the food we have on our plate. An urban garden is also a place on which you can welcome back biodiversity by planting flowers. Patrick advocates for growing heirloom seeds with Kokopelli, that are fully reproducible.

What are the heirloom varieties in the box ?

Aubergine/Eggplant Listada da gandia

This heirloom variety produces oval, cream-colored fruits with pinkish-purple stripes, with a green, spiny calyx. They offer a firm flesh of excellent quality. It is advisable to harvest when they are quite young.

Cucumber Mideast peace

This productive variety offers, even in cool weather, beautiful shiny green fruits with thin skin, quite tender and resistant.

Lettuce Queen of May

This ancient and fast-growing variety produces wavy leaves, light green tinged with red-brown, forming an apple with a tight heart.

Sweet Peppers Fushimi

French Breakfast Radishes

This ancient variety produces all year round, you can replant it several times during the year. It produces red roots with a white tip which offer a tender and crunchy flesh.

Calendula officinalis

This variety would produce, from spring to autumn, orange and yellow flowers. It is a melliferous plant that can be also used for tinctures and which also has many medicinal virtues. It is the best known of the Calendula officinalis. The origin of the name "Calendula" comes from the fact that it flowers all year round, during calendes (1st day of the month for the Romans) of each month.

Zinnia Giant Corral

This variety can reach 80cm in height and produces upright, sturdy stems bearing an abundance of double flowers offering a coral-red color. Perfect for biodiversity.
