Helianthus pauciflorus
This magnificent perennial species is quite invasive, like one of its supposed relatives, the Jerusalem artichoke. It can reach up to 2 m in height and produces slender, branched stems bearing an abundance of yellow flowers 6 to 10 cm in diameter.

After storing seeds for a few weeks in the fridge, sow in cups 2 to 3 weeks before planting. Transplant with the root ball after the last frosts, 1 m apart in all directions. Transplanting is a delicate operation, but it allows earlier flowering and offers protection against slugs, which are fond of young seedlings. It is also possible to sow in place, in rows spaced apart, after the last frosts.
