New Zealand Purple - Ricinus
This gelatinous perennial produces sumptuous purple-purple plants with broad, lobed leaves and thorny red fruits. The entire plant, as well as the seeds, are toxic if ingested. The oil from the seeds, however, is highly medicinal.
Ideal for brightening up gardens and flowerbeds!

Sow in a nursery at a temperature of between 16 and 20°C, under a well-lit shelter, 5 weeks before planting. After the last frosts, transplant the whole clump into the ground at a minimum distance of 50 cm, burying the stem up to the first leaves. Water abundantly at the time of planting.
In our climates, where frost is rare, Ricin can become a perennial and grow to 3 or 4m. Generally, it is grown as an annual and will reach a maximum of 2m.
