Olla to bury 5 L
Size 5 L terracotta in-ground ollas are ideal for indoor or outdoor plants in soil, large pots, tubs, window boxes, flower beds and also for irrigating trees and shrubs. For optimum irrigation, they are recommended for irrigation diameters of around 80 cm.
Ollas are supplied with a stopper to prevent any risk of evaporation or insects in the water.
These ollas are hand-turned by potters in the Lot region of France.
How does watering plants with ollas work?
Ollas are terracotta water reservoirs with lids. Sufficiently porous, once filled with water, they enable the soil around them to absorb the moisture needed for the development of nearby plants or vegetables by capillary action. Since evaporation does not take place in the soil, the roots benefit from optimized microporous watering.
What are the advantages of in-ground ollas?
- Plants are less stressed thanks to self-regulated watering.
- Better soil quality: keeps the substrate loose and moist, and encourages the development of fauna and microflora.
- Water savings of 50-70% thanks to watering without excess.
- Saves gardeners time by watering 3 times less frequently.
- Limited development of fungal diseases.
How to install an olla in a planter or tub?
- Step 1: dig a hole slightly larger than the olla.
- Step 2: Make sure no rocks or large, sharp stones come into contact with the olla.
- Step 3: Bury the olla, leaving its neck 1 to 5 cm above the ground. Fill the hole with soil, tamping it down regularly to avoid leaving areas without soil or with too much air.
- Step 4: Plant your vegetables or plants around the olla in a larger or smaller area, depending on the size of the olla you've chosen.
- Step 5: Fill your olla with water and close the cap.
Once the olla is installed, refill it from time to time!
