Sow lightly, directly in place, in well-warmed soil. Press lightly and water in light showers. When plants have 3 to 4 leaves, thin out if necessary, leaving only one plant at 30 cm in all directions. To extend the flowering period, stagger sowing.
In mild climates, autumn sowing is possible for earlier flowering.

In 2009, a team from the Czech Republic analyzed the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of six Nigella species: Nigella arvensis, Nigella damascena, Nigella hispanica, Nigella sativa, Nigella nigellastrum, Nigella orientalis. Nigella orientalis was also studied in the laboratory for its antioxidant properties. [48] The essential oil of one of these ecotypes was analyzed in the Czech Republic. It contained 90% sesquiterpenes: β-lemene (68.8%), δ-cadinene (5.2%), β-selinene (4.3%), and α-selinene (3.3%). It is used in Azerbaijan for its nutritional and medicinal value. β-Elemene is a very powerful terpene in terms of its anticancer activity (brain, breast, lungs, stomach, etc.).
