This perennial species grows to over 2 m tall and produces upright, branched stems bearing several reddish-purple inflorescences.
Sow in trays under a cold frame. Cover seeds lightly, press lightly and keep moist until emergence. If necessary, transplant into individual pots when plants have 5 or 6 leaves, or directly into warm soil about a month after emergence.
