Workshop - Anthotype - introduction to plant photography - 3h

Experiment with an ancient, natural photographic technique: the anthotype, and create unique, chemical-free images using plant pigments and sunlight.

A quick introduction to the history of the anthotype will familiarize you with plant photography, and then you'll discover different works based on this process. Then make your own plant-based emulsions and prepare the print media before superimposing an image or object of your choice (leaf or dried flower). Finally, leave with your creation under glass and observe - over the course of hours, days or weeks - how your image develops under the effect of sunlight.

Born in Colombia, Berta Ibáñez studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes of the Universidad Nacional de Bogotá. In the Colombian capital, she worked and exhibited with various artists' collectives, while teaching visual arts in the national education system, before moving to France in 2000. In the early years, she concentrated on graphic design. Today, his practice is firmly anchored in contemporary art through the language of Photography, and his work has been the subject of group exhibitions in galleries in Athens, Budapest, Denver and Paris, as well as being published in art magazines such as The Hand (Kansas), Corpografías (Bogotá), Shots Magazine (St Paul, Minnesota) and Tied To Light Art Gallery (London).

During her last artistic residency, between February and March 2025, at the Basque BioDesign Center in Bilbao (Spain), Berta Ibáñez continued her research into unconventional photographic media, always with the aim of enriching the dialogue between the photographic medium, the image and the substrate, in this case created by living organisms.
