Rhubarb
Rhubarb belongs to the genus Rheum in the Polygonaceae family. The genus comprises some fifty herbaceous and perennial species. Among these species, Rheum rhabarbarum, the cultivated rhubarb, is the most prized by gardeners, particularly for its delicious, tart-tasting edible stalks, used in pies, jams and compotes. There is also rhubarb officinale, Rheum officinale, known for its medicinal virtues.
Rhubarb prefers rich, humus-bearing soil and a sunny to semi-shady location.
