Horsetail decoction
Field horsetail decoction has both preventive and curative action against diseases caused by pathogenic fungi. As a curative, it dries out fungi such as mildew, powdery mildew and rust. Horsetail is boiled for 30 minutes to extract the silica it contains (125 ppm/L).
Packaging :
- 1.5 liters (€9.97/liter)
- 3 liters (7.57 € /liter)
- 5 liters (6.82 € /liter)
Beneficial effects
- Rich in trace elements, vitamins and minerals directly assimilated by plants. When sprayed, horsetail decoction coats young plant cells with silica, making them "impermeable" to pathogenic fungi, which will find it more difficult to establish themselves in plant tissues.
- Both preventive and curative, it can be used on pests and diseases.
- Used in synergy with fermented fern extract.
Directions for use
- Horsetail decoction should be applied very early in the season, so that young plants can benefit from this silica contribution right from the start of their growth. At the adult leaf stage, the active ingredients would remain on the periphery.
- The effectiveness of this natural treatment depends on the temperature of the soil, which must be at least 12°C.
- Do not treat in the middle of the day. In sunlight, silica can create a magnifying glass effect, which can burn foliage.
- Curative treatment: in the event of heavy attacks, treat every 3 days. Avoid using in hot, dry weather.
- Storage of horsetail decoction: 1 year stored in a dark room at over 10°C (cellar). And 1 to 2 months once opened, stored in a room at a temperature above 10°C.
Fight mildew with Horsetail decoction
Downy mildew is a fungal disease of plants. Its appearance and spread are favored by heat and humidity. It can be harmful to both amateur and professional gardeners. Nevertheless, it can be easily and quickly identified: brownish-yellow spots appear above the leaves. These then gradually dry out. As mildew can survive in the soil for 3 to 5 years and is frost-resistant, there are ways to prevent infection: water without wetting the leaves, grow under cover, rotate crops from one year to the next and, above all, keep the vegetable garden well aerated: in the greenhouse or garden, remember to space the plants far enough apart so that the leaves can dry out.
But what to do once mildew has set in? The first recommendation is to cut off infested leaves, taking care not to leave them at the foot of crops, as this could spread the infection to the soil.
Horsetail decoction has a strong preventive and curative effect on fungal diseases. Its silica content helps strengthen plant cell walls. As a preventive measure, watering the soil is much more effective. Diluted to 10%, it can be applied from April to June. Two sprays in the first two months (two weeks apart) and one in June. For curative treatment, dilute to 10%. To stop mildew, treat soil and plants every 3 days.
Treat plants only in the evening, as silica has a magnifying effect which, when used in sunlight, can burn plants.
Dilutions
To dilute plant extracts, use rainwater or spring water at room temperature. Tap water contains too much chlorine and limestone, which oxidizes the soil. It can alter the effects of soil care by counteracting the effect of bacteria.
For foliar spraying, dilute at 10%: 1 L in 10 liters of rainwater, 2 to 3 times a month. When spraying, you can add 3% black soap (surfactant). Best applied to young plant leaves.
Production methods for ÉlémenTerre fermented extracts
The horsetail used to make the decoctions is freshly hand-picked during the harvesting season, or grown in-house or by a local organic farmer. Fermentation is controlled anaerobically (without air) to avoid any risk of oxidation. The fermented extracts are packaged in AIRLESS BIBs, which ensure better preservation while protecting these natural preparations from oxidation.
