Sow lightly on the surface, in trays, 8 to 10 weeks before final planting. Press lightly, then spray to avoid digging up the seeds. Transplant into pots at the 3 to 4-leaf stage. Plant out when plants have 6 to 8 leaves, after the last frosts, 30 cm apart in all directions.

Water the plants regularly to prevent the ribs from becoming stringy.
