This perennial species reaches no more than 30 cm in height and produces red-veined, rounded, toothed purple leaves and slender, upright stems bearing an abundance of pale blue flowers.

This species reseeds very easily.

Sow in pots or nursery at 18°C minimum. Cover seeds and keep moist. Transplant after the last frosts, when plants have 4 to 5 leaves, 50 cm apart in all directions. For direct sowing, wait for the soil to warm up. Thin to 50 cm in all directions.

Seed germination can sometimes take a long time.
