Sow in pots at a temperature of between 16 and 20°C, under a well-lit shelter, 5 weeks before planting. After the last frosts, transplant the whole clump into the ground at a minimum distance of 50 cm, burying the stem up to the first leaves. Water abundantly at the time of planting.
Solanaceae need light and heat to produce. In cool climates, it's best to grow them under cover and, depending on the soil, water them regularly.

This ancient variety is mentioned in the 19th century under the name "Green Gage", although the current "Green Gage" (USDA NSL 27022) appears to be smaller. Also known as "Yellow Plum", it is mentioned in 1877 in "Annual Circular, Retail Catalogue, Warranted, Vegetable and flowers" by James J. H. Gregory of Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA. In 1879 and 1893, this variety appeared in the "Haage & Schmidt" catalog in Erfurt, Germany, then in 1885 in Vilmorin-Andrieux's "Les Plantes Potagères" catalog.
