Whangaparoa Crown - Maxima squash
This old variety offers up to 6 slightly ribbed fruits weighing from 1 to 3 kg. The blue-gray skin encloses very sweet orange flesh. The fruit keeps well.

Sow in pots at a temperature of between 18 and 20°C, 2 to 3 weeks before planting. Transplant, with the root ball, into the ground, after the last frosts, at a distance of at least 2 m in all directions. For sowing directly into the ground, sow after the last frosts, once the soil has warmed up. This variety was grown quite wild in New Zealand until the 1980s, when it became more popular in gardens. It was more successful in Australia than in its country of origin. It was brought to the United States around 1932.
