Scabious plants - of the genus Scabiosa - are herbaceous annuals, biennials or perennials that grow to varying heights, from 30 to 130 cm depending on the species and variety. Leaves are more or less hairy, and may be whole, lobed or deeply indented. The slender, branched stems bear one or more round, highly melliferous flower heads, resembling light pompons in a wide variety of colors: white, pink, red, blue, purple... Depending on the species, Scabiosa has expectorant, vulnerary, stomachic, tonic, depurative and digestive properties. It combats a variety of skin ailments and is effective in treating respiratory illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis and influenza.
