Sorrel
Sorrels - of the genus Rumex - are herbaceous aromatic plants of the Polygonaceae family, growing wild in Europe and northern Asia, as well as in North America. Several species are cultivated as vegetables for their edible leaves. The genus comprises some 200 species. Sorrel - Rumex acetosa - contains a large amount of iron, but also oxalic acid, which is detrimental to bone calcification and can predispose to the formation of kidney stones, which often relegates it to the rank of condiment rather than vegetable.
