Annual wormwood - Artemisia
Native to China and now naturalized in Europe, Annual Mugwort can grow up to 3 m tall. Its branched stems give rise to highly divided leaves with a particularly intense fragrance. Well established in Chinese pharmacopoeia, Artemisia annua is an exceptional source of phytoconstituents, notably artemisinin. This species has a wide range of applications, both for the treatment of serious infectious diseases such as malaria, and for preventive use.
Beware, the seeds are tiny.
Artemisia annua was the featured plant in the 2019 edition of the "Cultivate Us! For the liberation of medicinal plants" campaign.
