Sow directly in place, 2 to 3 cm deep, at 8 cm intervals, in rows 40 cm apart, or in stacks of 3 to 5 seeds, 40 cm apart in all directions. Plant 3 weeks after emergence. In mild climates, sow as early as April.
For staking, place oars about 2 m apart before the beans emit their long, voluble stalks. Water regularly in case of drought to keep the pods tender. They can be harvested when they are 12 to 15 cm long, before becoming fibrous.
