Sow lightly, directly in place, covering the seeds lightly and keeping the seedlings moist. Thin out when the plants have 2 to 4 leaves. You can also sow in pots, taking care of the taproot, which is sensitive to transplanting. Transplant after the last frosts, when plants reach the 4 to 5-leaf stage.
Dill needs light and warmth, but fears heatwaves, which will cause it to go to seed too early. Plant in well-drained soil, not too damp and sheltered from the wind. Keep the soil cool for the first few weeks after planting.
