Long Island Cheese - Moschata squash
The flattened, ribbed fruits of this old variety resemble a wheel of cheese. They weigh up to 5 kg and have an excellent shelf life. Their firm, sweet flesh is highly prized in pastries.

Sow in pots at a temperature of between 18 and 20°C, 2 to 3 weeks before planting. It is native to the states of New York and New Jersey. Cheese gourds were mentioned in the United States as early as 1815, but a painting of them by the painter L. Van Valkenborch (1530-1597). It was introduced into the collection of the Vavilov Institute in Russia in 1923.
