Sow on the surface, in trays under a well-lit shelter. Press lightly and keep moist. After emergence, prick out into cups and plant out when plants have 5 to 6 leaves, 20 to 30 cm apart in all directions. For direct sowing in the ground, sow in rows 20 to 30 cm apart. Thin to 20 or 30 cm when plants have 5 or 6 leaves.
In mild climates, it is also possible to sow in autumn for earlier flowering the following summer.
