Seed box - Children

Ref : KK0006

Sowing, planting and growing organic vegetables with children is possible! Learning how to tend a vegetable garden is a fun way of raising children's awareness of the need to protect biodiversity and the environment. This seed box contains everything you need to embark on your family's vegetable-growing adventure!

It contains :

  • A selection of 6 packets of organic, reproducible seeds
  • 6 growing instructions for each species
  • The book Mon premier potager
  • 24 wood-fibre pots
  • 1 gardener's notebook

What does the children's seed box consist of?

This seed box is made up of a selection of 6 packets of organic, reproducible seeds. These varieties have been selected for their unique taste, impressive size or fun shape.

The crop cards are a gold mine of generic information on the species, and a precious ally for cultivation.

The book Mon premier potager (My First Vegetable Garden ) explains in a playful way how to grow your first vegetable garden. Easily assimilated by children, it is illustrated with photos and drawings to guide them in understanding the fascinating world of the vegetable garden.

The wood-fibre cups are biodegradable, and can be placed directly in the planting hole without removing the plant from them.

The gardener's notebook provides a guided record of a season in the vegetable garden. With a sowing calendar, garden design plan and month-by-month crop list, children can fill it in themselves!

What varieties are included in the children's seed box?

This ancient variety, very hardy and adapted to a wide range of growing conditions, offers excellent potential for oil production. The medium-sized black seeds are also ideal for feeding birds in winter!

This old variety offers 2 to 5 fruits, white then amber when ripe, 30 cm long and weighing up to 3 kg. Their low-calorie, orange-yellow flesh breaks down into spaghetti-like strands when cooked. They keep for 6 to 12 months.

This variety grows very vigorously.

The fruits of this old variety are bottle-shaped, with a very swollen base. They were once used to carry water for pilgrims on the roads to Santiago de Compostela.

The inedible gourds can be dried in a dry, ventilated place, and can be painted, sculpted or transformed into various objects.

This old variety produces red half-long roots with white tips and tender, crunchy flesh all year round, as long as sowing is staggered.

This very early radish will produce its first harvest just 2 or 3 weeks after sowing!

This variety offers two-meter-high plants bearing red and indigo cherry tomatoes. Obtained from Tom Wagner.

This variety, with its long, bushy foliage, produces an abundance of double flowers 3 to 5 cm in diameter, in a variety of colors ranging from peach to apricot, orange and lemon or golden yellow.

It is one of the most famous plants in pharmacopoeia. It has antiviral, antitumor, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Creating a vegetable garden with your children

  • The basics:

To embark on the adventure of vegetable gardening with the family, it's important to adapt the approach to something simple and fun. Depending on the child's age, start with short sessions highlighting the benefits of vegetable gardening for health and nature. Reading the book together, taking the time to guide them, planting the first seedlings with them are unforgettable moments to experience as a family.

  • Getting started:

There are no secrets to success: you have to let your little ones get their hands dirty. By explaining to them how to do it and choosing suitable varieties (like those in this pack), they'll get the job done!

  • Involve them in the process:

Co-constructing and letting children express themselves in what they want to set up for their garden experience gets them involved. Getting them to draw up a plan of the vegetable garden, or choosing where they want to put the vegetables, will be ways of achieving this.

This box is more than just a kit, it's a way of learning important life concepts such as patience and the cycle of life, as well as an introduction to the relationship with nature and biodiversity.
