Solanaceae need light and heat to produce. In cool climates, it's best to grow them under cover and, depending on the soil, water them regularly.

This variety, originally from Sicily, was brought to the United States in 1987. It was introduced to the Seed Savers Exchange by Ann Fuller of Indiana, who herself received the seeds from a man who brought them to the U.S. from Sicily in 1987, and whose family has been growing it for years. Ann describes the slices as looking like red flower petals (rosso means red).
