Helichryse immortelle 3 organic plants
Welcome Italian Helichrysum italicum, also known as curry plant, an aromatic perennial that's easy to grow in the garden or in a pot, and particularly fragrant. It forms a dense clump, around 50 cm high, with a multitude of narrow, silvery-gray, downy leaves and numerous small yellow flowers in flower heads. The whole plant gives off a strong curry scent.
Ideal for spirals, tubs or herb beds, curry plants can be used in cooking, medicine or simply to add color and fragrance to the vegetable or ornamental garden.
How do I grow Italian Helichrysum?
Italian Helichrysum likes well-drained soil and sunny exposure.
It is planted in spring, from April to May, in the ground at 50 to 60 cm in all directions, after the last frosts, or in a large pot.
Prune once a year at the end of flowering or in March, 5 cm above the wood, to encourage vigorous regrowth and more abundant flowering.
How do I harvest Italian Helichrysum?
The flowering stems of the curry plant, used to make dried bouquets, are picked in early summer as they begin to bloom. Cut them back, at least 3 cm from the wood, and arrange them in small bunches before hanging them upside down in a dark room. They dry easily and retain their fragrance and color for a long time.
Leaves are best used fresh, and can be harvested as and when required, all year round.
Pick in the morning, before the hottest hours, when the plant has evacuated as much moisture as possible from the night, but has not evaporated its essential oils.
Uses of Italian Helichrysum
In cooking, its leaves can be added fresh to spice up meat, fish, rice or salads.
Its flowering tops contain an essential oil that is highly prized in aromatherapy. It has antihematoma, healing, anticoagulant, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties.
